White Sox: Peters Is Hot, Urquidy's Role Is Fluid
The White Sox lead the AL Central and are competing for a first-round bye. They just took a home series from the Mets with two walk-off wins, although Saturday exposed the pitching staff in a high-scoring loss.
Tristan Peters carries the clearest momentum. He homered on Saturday and Sunday, with Sunday's blast ending the game, and Andrew Benintendi produced the late extra-base hit that set up the winning rally.
José Urquidy is listed as the starter for what would be his first conventional start in a White Sox uniform. The Rangers are in a compressed AL West race and the crowded wild-card picture. They also won their weekend series, but the offense swung from nearly silent Saturday to early home-run damage Sunday.
Kumar Rocker is listed and confirmed for a normal-rest turn. His July start against this same White Sox lineup was dominant, built on a lively fastball, sharp slider and the recently introduced splitter. In his most recent outing, however, a hanging splitter was hit out, a reminder that the pitch is still inconsistent.
The bigger concern is what follows Rocker. Jon Gray pitched on Saturday and Sunday and should be treated as likely unavailable, while Jacob Latz closed Sunday after working through traffic. Texas has options, but the bridge is thinner than usual.

The White Sox offense is not one-dimensional right now: Peters is threatening, and the left-handed bats have enough plate discipline to force Rocker into the zone.
The decisive edge is sequencing. The White Sox are the home club with the stronger season scoring profile, and once Rocker leaves, the game turns to a Texas bullpen that is missing Gray and handling Latz carefully. Those late at-bats are the clearest route to four or more White Sox runs.
Urquidy's role is the main wild card. If the White Sox shift into an opener or bullpen plan, the game flow changes, but the target remains the same: get into the Texas middle relief and let the home bats strike.
The main risk is a deep, repeat-July outing from Rocker. If he works into the seventh with a lead, the Texas bullpen problem may never fully surface.
